Rockies sign Treanor
It appears the Rockies are in pursuit of another catcher, although not through trade. The team offered Free Agent catcher, Matt Treanor, a offer of 1 year worth $300,000 on Sunday. The deal won't be official until 48 hours of a standing offer. After acquiring young catcher Wilson Ramos from Oakland in the Rockies first deal of 2012, the team's interest in Treanor may be linked to the fact that catcher Ramon Castro is having injury problems. GM Alex was quoted saying, "Ramos is a young player. He hasn't had injuries in his past, but we don't want to be taking chances on a season that we hope to be successful in." He also added later on the probability of the offer not being topped, "We're willing to pay for Matt to come to Colorado."

Pujols to Rival San Francisco
The Colorado Rockies issued a statement this evening regarding the deal that sent the legendary slugger Albert Pujols into the Rockies division, the NL West. GM Alex Monseth said, "Obviously we aren't thrilled, but we'll welcome the challenge. The Giants are showing they want to win now, we'll have to make the necessary improvements to make sure that doesn't happen." The Rockies had been in the running to acquire Pujols for the Baltimore Orioles, who were trying to cut cap, but the deal fell through when San Francisco was able to offer the pitching depth that the Rockies don't have. Even if the Giants have a great year, the addition of two wild cards to the playoffs will create more chances for teams to get in the playoffs. Regarding the issue, the Colorado GM was quoted saying, "Yeah, I think it definitely brings more options for teams that are the brink of competing. Usually, you take a look at your roster and say, 'hey, there's two teams better than us in the division, let's deal away some veterans for prospects since we aren't going to win now.' With more chances to compete for a title, teams should be more likely to hang on to proven talent and go for a chance at the post-season. Regardless of the Giants, there's still a lot of buzz surrounding the Rockies who appear ready to challenge for their first ever World Series in 2012.

Cargo Out, Fans Confused
Meerly an hour after the news broke that the Matt Treanor signing was official, the world of Colorado was shocked. Hometown hero, Carlos Gonzalez has been traded to division rival San Francisco. Many fans were angered by the decision and felt it was a step backward for the team that seems so close to winning it all. Met with the ignorant fury of fans at a press conference tonight, GM Alex responded well saying, "Major League Baseball is a sport with a great amount of depth. Taking nothing away from Cargo, he's an amazing player, but we felt that this move will greatly benefit us in the future, while still keeping us in the running for now. Bryce and Vance should be huge players for us in the future. Couple that with the draft picks and Hembree, who I've watched for awhile, I'd say we made out pretty well in this deal." Even though this did quiet down the noise in the room, somewhat betrayed fans still murmured as they left. An inside source has claimed that the Rockies may now look to deal top prospect Julio Teheren for someone to replace the offense that Cargo so greatly provided the Rockies. If that happens, we're sure the loyal fans of Colorado will be right back on board with the GM. Possible targets include Mike Stanton, Ichiro Suzuki, and others. Of course, the Rockies could elect to keep Teheren, but with a crowed young rotation that already includes David Price, Ubaldo Jimenez, C. J. Wilson, Alex White, Jorge De La Rosa, Jhoulys Chacin, and now Vance Worley, the team should look to move a pitcher or two to improve the offense.

Out Goes Cargo, In Comes Longo
In a shocking move today, the Rockies have countered the trade of Carlos Gonzalez with a deal to bring in superstar third baseman Evan Longoria. The deal was made this afternoon between Colorado and Tampa Bay. The Rockies sent back top prospects Julio Teheren and Nolan Arenado along with pitcher Alex White, infielder Chris Nelson, and the ATL 2nd round pick. The move immediately boosts the Rockies lineup to a Philadelphia type level. With 4 sluggers, Paul Konerko, Evan Longoria, David Wright, and Elvis Andrus, to go along with up and coming Ben Revere, Wilson Ramos, and a possible introduction to Leonys Martin later this year, the Rockies could have one of the best lineups in the league. GM Alex said in a presser after the trade was completed, "We want to warmly welcome Evan to the Rockies. We've seen the walk-offs, the hustle plays, and just plain talent and were overjoyed that we could get this deal done. We wish Julio, Nolan, Alex, and Chris the best in Tampa." The deal still needs to undergo league approval, but it appears solid and should be passed. The Rockies will look towards the present with this deal, but don't count out the farm system that still has Bryce Harper, Jonathan Singleton, Chad Bettis, and Jose Iglesias. There's a possibility all could see some action and the upper level this year. Whatever happens, I think the fans will have moved on from the eradication of Cargo from Colorado. As of now, the GM is off the hot seat.

Deal Official, Longo a Rockie
Well, the deal for Longoria become official this afternoon. Longoria can officially be welcomed onto the team's complex's and it was a busy day for the new big name in Colorado. After signing a few autographs, the star was greeted by the owner, GM, and head coach. When asked about today's passing of the trade, the GM stated, "This is just another step headed forward towards the ultimate goal of winning a championship. It appears we struck gold for both sides, and Evan is ecstatic to be here." In other news, the team appears to be searching for a starting second baseman. With Chris Nelson out of the picture, and young Eric Young Jr. unproven. The team should look to acquire someone with experience until Young Jr. can show himself worthy. Also, the GM released this statement earlier this night in a press conference, "We will soon begin creating our 50-man roster for the 2012 season. Nothing will be set in stone until the 25th of March, but we're excited to see which guys will be helping us come opening day and who will be there in the end hoisting the trophy." The roster will be under construction probably until the very deadline.

Rockies Sign LaHair
The Rockies signed free agent first baseman Brian LaHair a few days ago to a contract of 1 year worth 7.9m. LaHair will become the team's back-up first baseman to Paul Konerko. Lahair hasn't been very productive over his short career so far, but has been given an opportunity to produce in Colorado on a team that is looking upwards this season. When asked what he thought about the young corner infielder, GM Alex stated, "I think he can do some good things for us. Obviously, you don't just throw seven million dollars at any player hoping he does something for you. I have confidence in Brian that he can help us out this year." The team also released its 50-man roster this season. The squad looks strong, but a mediocre outfield and big question mark at the second base position could be addressed soon. The Rockies may be pursuing talks with the Rangers, a team that holds a top player at each of the needed position. "I don't think it's that big of a need, Young Jr. has a chance to do some things for us. Also, I think that signing (Juan) Rivera this off-season was key to sure up the outfield. Ben (Revere), Alfonso (Soriano), and Rivera seems good enough to me! Don't forget about (Leonys) Martin coming up sometime later this season," the GM stated after releasing the roster.

Rockies Draft Cardona, MiLB Draft The Rockies made their first selection in the 2012 MiLB Draft this afternoon. With the 30th overall pick, they chose Adonys Cardona, a RHP with a lot of upside. The move brings more depth to a well balanced farm system. The team will be able to make five more selections before the drafts end. GM Alex was quoted saying, "I think this will really bring a more whole feeling to the organization. We've got a few guys on our sites, and they're still on the board at this point." The team is also rumored to be shopping all-star third baseman David Wright. "Nothing's official yet, but we have some holes to fill on our lineup, and will Evan no here at third, Wright may find more time in a different club," the GM said.

Rockies Acquire Schafer, Draft Hood
In recent news, the Rockies made their first deal in a month by shipping back-up first baseman Bryan LaHair to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for outfielder Jordan Schafer. The move brings depth to an outfield that's lacking the pop that other top teams have. The move also saves the Rockies six million in 2012 and they have Schafer under control for one more year than LaHair. As the MiLB Draft continues to cycle its way around, the Rockies made their second selection with the 60th pick of the draft. The team chose Destin Hood, a young outfielder who is still a few years away, but has a bright future. When asked on trade for Schafer, GM Alex said, "We needed some help in the outfield. I'm not doubting our current guys that we have, but Schafer's a guy that I've been looking at for awhile, and I think he can help us out." The team looks forward to the 2012 season that is less than 3 weeks away.

Rockies Bring In Vet: Lee
In a big move today, the Rockies have a preliminary deal done to bring slugger Carlos Lee to Colorado for the 2012 season. The move is pending a draft pick consideration over which the Rockies will move either the Giants 1st (9#) or the Phillies 1st (29#). In the deal, the Rockies would also send prospects Jose Iglesias and Chad Bettis along with outfielder Juan Rivera. The move was made earlier this evening to sure up an outfield that's in somewhat of a question going into this season. Lee is projected a top 20 outfielder, and can also play first to provide depth behind Konerko. GM Alex was quoted saying, "We're very excited to bring Carlos into the mix here. He may be that missing piece that brings us a championship this year." The Braves apparently were requesting that newly acquired outfielder Jordan Schafer be a part of the deal, however, with the Rockies situation with outfield depth, the Rockies hung onto him and sent the draft pick in his place. The deal still is to undergo approval by the league.

Rockies Rolling: 2-0
Two weeks into the season and things are already looking upwards in Colorado. The team delivered in a tough contest in week 1 against the Dodgers to move to 1-0. The leading scorer for the Rockies was pitcher C. J. Wilson, who went 2-0 over the stretch while striking out 7 and only giving up two earned runs getting the team 43 Points. Evan Longoria and Paul Konerko both delivered with 32 Points from the plate and closer Craig Kimbrel had 35 Points in the bullpen. Week 2 brought an even tougher challenge with division rival San Diego in town. The team started off slowly, but quickly surged back into the lead. The team was lead by another strong performance by Evan Longoria with 37 Points and Elvis Andrus contributed 23 Points. Starter Vance Worley gave the team a big lift by getting 27 Points. The team is up by 70 Points with only a few players left in play, so the Rockies are likely to be 2-0.

Welcome to the Big Leagues, Kid
It's finally here. The Colorado Rockies warmly welcomed Bryce Harper into the clubhouse for his debut in tonight's game. This is a long awaited moment in the league and also for the local fans, since it took trading fan-favorite CarGo to bring Harper to Colorado. Harper will replace the aging Alfonso Soriano in the starting lineup tonight. It is also rumored that the Rockies will be looking to ship Soriano now soon. He does have a large contract, but GM Alex Monseth called a trade "definitely possible".

Pujols Gone, But Longo Sidelined
The Rockies were relieved today to find that the King himself, Albert Pujols, has been traded away from the division. "I'm happy that he's gone!" GM Alex Monseth said. "It only makes our chances better for this season." The move basically makes it a three team race for the division. The Diamondbacks, with their loaded rotation, are 2-1 through the first 3 weeks. The Padres, who have been making moves to upgrade, are 2-1 as well. And finally, the Rockies are one of five remaining unbeatens. In other news, the Rockies top hitter, Evan Longoria went down with an injury this past week that will sideline him for 4-8 weeks. The move weakens the offense, but with Harper's recent call up, there should be enough run producers.

Rockies 4-0, Acquire Ellis
The Rockies, now 4-0 on the season, have made a move to sure up the second base position. In a recent trade, the Rockies sent relief pitcher Matt Belisle and outfield prospect Engel Beltre in exchange for second baseman Matt Ellis from the Mariners. Ellis responded in his first game with Colorado by hitting his first home run of the season and getting 13 points total. The team leads the winless Marlins entering the final two days of week 5.

Rockies Finally Go Down The Colorado Rockies have appeared to have lost their first game of the 2012 season. The team is trailing the Washington Nationals by a significant amount in the last day of the week. "All good things must come to an end," the GM stated after no real progress was made in a comeback. The Rockies are ridden with injuries from starting pitchers Jhoulys Chacin and Jorge De La Rosa to hitters Evan Longoria, Mark Ellis, and Carlos Lee. When those players return, the team should be back to its winning ways. Regardless, the team is still at the top of the National League.

Amidst Skid, Rockies Get Depth
The Colorado Rockies, having lost back-to-back games in the last two weeks, made a move today with the Atlanta Braves to bring depth to the rotation. The team acquired starting pitchers Christian Friedrich and Josh Outman in exchange for outfielder Jordan Schafer, shortstop prospect Trevor Story, and their 4th round pick in this year's amateur draft. The GM released a statement soon after the deal was announced, "This trade comes at the perfect time. We weren't playing like we were at the beginning of the season, and I hope this move puts us back on the upswing." Other possible deals to bring in a catcher to replace the injured Wilson Ramos are also rumored to being close. We'll see what else Colorado does to improve.

Rockies Deal For Draft Picks Man, have the Rockies gotten busy. The team has recently made two deals to acquire draft picks and send away veterans. In the first trade, the team sent shortstop Elliot Johnson to the Rays in exchange for the Atlanta Second Round Pick and the Tampa Bay Fifth Round Pick. The move gives the team draft depth, and shaves two million off of the teams salary. In another deal just made today, the team sent high-paid outfielder Alfonso Soriano to division rival Arizona for the Arizona Third Round Pick. The move gives the Rockies a lot of freedom in the upcoming free agency release. The GM stated soon after the second deal was completely, "We've gotten busy and are really getting serious about our run for the title this year, and in the future. These draft picks will hopefully one day be our starting players on our team." Rumor has it that the team may look to send this picks in exchange for a quality starter or another high-profile bat.

Rockies Take Southpaw Heaney
With their first selection at the number 9 spot in the 2012 Amateur Draft, the Colorado Rockies select southpaw Andrew Heaney from Oklahoma State Universtiy. The move gives the Rockies another solid arm in their farm system to go along with Daniel Norris (selected in the first round last year), Heath Hembree (acquired for Carlos Gonzalez), Adonys Cardona (selected in the MiLB Draft), and Austin Adams (signed via free agency). Here is a report on Heaney from MLB.com When Heaney was coming out of high school in Oklahoma, he and Chad James were the top prep lefties in the state and both were highly thought of. James went in the first round and signed. Heaney, because of signability, slid and went on to Oklahoma State. Teams aren't likely to pass on him this time around. Heaney still has the easy arm action scouts loved in high school and he repeats his delivery consistently. He also has the chance to have three solid-average to plus Major League pitches. He maintains his velocity deep into starts and can run it up to 93 mph at times, plus for a southpaw. His curve is an out pitch, with sharp depth and bite. His changeup is very deceptive and has late sink. He has advanced pitchability, throwing all three offerings for strikes and mixing them well to keep hitters guessing. Pitchability lefties always do well on Draft day. When they have good stuff to go with that, they get followed very closely. The Rockies will next pick towards the beginning of the 2nd round.

Rockies Hanging On To #1 The Rockies are off to a fast start against their 15th opponent of the year, the San Francisco Giants. The team leads 40.6 to 0.5 on the opening night. Currently, the Rockies are in the 1st seed in the National League. This is huge this year with the added wild card spots, because the top two seeds will get a bye in the first round of the post-season. GM Alex said, "We're fortunate to be where we are, with all our injuries this year, Evan, Jhoulys, and Jorge, we've had to get by, and players have stepped up. Still, I'm looking forward to when we can get our guys back on the field." The team also has 3 draft picks in the second round of the Amateur draft and should be getting busy. "We've got a few guys on our radar that we'd love to have," the GM said. "I think our farm is remarkably strong for having such a good team on the field up in the big lights." The Rockies hope to continue to up their bid for the number 1 seed. Top teams, the New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds, the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals, and the Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals, all square off in this crucial week 15. The Rockies are fortunate to be playing a team towards the bottom of the power rankings.

Rockies Pick Fontana
With their second selection in the 2012 draft, the Rockies took shortstop Nolan Fontana out of the University of Florida. The move fills the hole in the farm system left by prospect Trevor Story who was recently dealed. GM Alex said, "We were all over the place with this one, but I'm glad we could make a decision. May it be a good one." Here's a report from MLB.com on the young shortstop: Take each of Fontana’s tools individually and none of them may overwhelm you. Add them up and you’ll like what you see a lot more. Fontana can swing the bat a little bit, showing a solid approach and an ability to make adjustments. He even has a little power to the pull side and will turn on a mistake. Fontana's instincts on the bases allow his average speed to play up and he does all of the little things offensively to help a team win. He’s the same way on the other side of the ball, always putting himself in the right position to make the plays, with a solid arm and range and very good hands. Fontana could be a very good second baseman, a decent shortstop or the kind of super utility man championship-caliber teams tend to have. Whatever the case, his abilities and instincts should allow him to help a big league club out quickly. The Rockies pick again at #50 and #61.

Watson Is the Choice
The Rockies used their second pick in the second round to select Shane Watson, a right-hander out of Lakewood HS, California. Watson fell farther than expected in the draft and the Rockies were pleased to have him. GM Alex Monseth was quoted saying with a grin on his face, "We were actually debating picking him at #42. So, to have a guy fall another 8 spots to you, it's the perfect senario. Personnally, I love (Shane) Watson, and I think he and (Andrew) Heaney will make a nice combo in the farm system to go with Daniel (Norris) and (Arodys) Cardona." Here's a report from MLB.com on Watson: After a big junior season, Watson didn’t make much noise on the baseball field last fall thanks to his football duties and a bout with mono. But he picked up where he left off last spring with a huge senior season Watson is big and projectable, exactly what scouts look for in prep arms. His now stuff isn’t bad, either. Watson will throw his fastball in the 92 mph range, with plus life. There’s more velocity in the tank – he’s been up to 95-96 mph at times and could conceivably be there more consistently as he develops. He combines it with a wipeout curve he throws up to 80 mph, a 12-to-6 breaking ball. He’s worked on a variety of other secondary pitches – changeup, splitter and a cutter-slider – and had varied success with each. He has more control than command and wasn’t afraid to pitch inside, sometimes to a fault. Watson is committed to attend USC, but with talk about him potentially going in the first round, he may never set foot on campus. With three picks down, the Rockies will look towards their selection at number #61, when they pick to finish out the second round. The team is rumored to be looking for a strong power bat.

Rockies Select Walker
The Rockies were very pleased to announce their selection of OF, Adam Walker on Saturday afternoon. The team had been rumored to be looking for a power bat from the draft, and it appears they have one. The Rockies GM said after making the selection, "Wow, it seems that all the dice have landed on the right number for us in this draft. Every guy we've wanted, we've gotten. I'm very excited about our next two selections." Here's a report from MLB.com on the newest addition to the Rockies: The son of a former NFL running back, Walker looks the part of a future slugger. The question is if he has the baseball skills to get there. There’s no question about his pop at the plate. He might have as much raw power as anyone in the Draft class, with some scouts giving him an 80 on the 20-80 scouting scale. He also has a very good approach to hitting, though his hitting instincts lag behind. That leaves some wondering if he’ll learn to tap into that power consistently enough against advanced pitching. A big, physical specimen, Walker has played both first base and the outfield. His arm is well below average, and while some think he could handle playing left field, his defensive home is up in the air. He draws comparisons to Giancarlo Stanton, both in body type and power potential, but there is some concern that he’s a Ferrari with a VW engine. The Rockies will pick again at #66 and #68.

Rockies Continue To Stock Pitching
With their 5th, yes their 5th, selection in the draft, the Rockies continued to stock up their farm by taking southpaw Alex Wood. This is the 3rd pitcher the rockies have taken, and the second lefty. This gives them a dynamic 1-2-3 punch in the farm system with Norris/Heaney/Wood, all are lefties. The GM had no comment on this selection, it is rumored the Rockies are busy trying to make a deal to improve before the trade deadline. Here's a report from MLB.com on Wood. Combine left-handedness, velocity and pitching in a tough college conference and the result is going to be a Draft prospect worth watching. Wood is Georgia’s Friday starter in the uber-competitive SEC, and he’s had some success. Big and athletic, he has a plus fastball as a southpaw that regularly reaches the mid-90s. While his curve is a bit inconsistent, he breaks off enough that have tight, downward rotation to project it as a good pitch down the road. The same goes for the changeup, which is below average right now, but he has a feel for it, and the pitch has the chance to be a Major League average offering. Wood's overall command needs to improve for success as he moves on, but most of it is caused by some mechanical issues with his delivery. If corrected, he has the stuff to be a very intriguing left-handed starter. The Rockies picked again at 68.

Last Pick of the Third
With their second pick in the 3rd round, the Rockies took a young third baseman out of Westview H.S. The Rockies have now taken 3 hitters and 3 pitchers in their first six picks of the draft. Although the Rockies already have two all-star 3B in Evan Longoria and David Wright, the move brings another much needed power hitter to the farm system. GM Alex released a short tweet on twitter during his busy schedule, "Glad to bring in Wood and (Carson) Kelly, feeling great about our draft." Here's a report from MLB.com on Kelly: The top 2012 prospect from the Pacific Northwest, scouts will take a look at Kelly both as a pitcher and as a third baseman. While initially it seem led like his arm might be of more interest, it became apparent as the Draft approached that most liked his potential as a position player better. The arm that reaches 92 mph on the mound works very well from third base and he’s steady all-around as a defender. But it’s his bat that has teams eyeing him. He is strong, with a good approach at the plate and the kind of raw power teams like to see from the corner infield position. Kelly has the option to head to the University of Oregon and perhaps continue to be a two-way player, so it will be interesting to see if he goes high enough in the Draft to focus on just one craft at the professional level. The Rockies won't pick again until Round 4.

Rockies Winners of Berry, Clevinger
The Rockies won big in the silent bidding mid-season free agency by signing catcher Steve Clevinger and young, up-and-coming outfielder Quintin Berry. The Rockies were not projected to be front-runners for the Berry signing, and the news came as a shock to Colorado fans. "I can't believe we got him," GM Alex Monseth was quoted. "We filled a big need in getting Steve here, and having Berry is just incredible. The Rockies want to personally welcome both to the organization. Berry has been one of the top stories this season. He's hitting just under .300 his rookie season, steals bases, and plays incredible defense. Clevenger is an immediate upgrade over Treanor.

NL West Champs The Rockies clinched the NL West Division Title for the second time in a row. The team has a 14-2 record through Week 16 and faces division foe Los Angeles in Week 17. With only 3 games left, the 10-6 Padres have no shot at catching Colorado. The Rockies play the Dodgers (1-15), Cardinals (11-5), and Pirates (3-13) in their last three games of the season. The Rockies have a 1 game lead over the Houston Astros for the top seed in the National League, and a 2 game lead over the Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets for a spot in the top two, which guarentees a first round bye. The Rockies are also rumored to be looking for another pitcher to add to the staff. Although David Price (14-4, 2.49) and C.J. Wilson (9-7, 3.27) have been superb this season, the rest of the rotation has struggled as Ubaldo Jimenez (8-11, 5.29) and Vance Worley (6-6, 3.63) haven't lived up to expectations. The last spot in the rotation is wide open. Possible canditates for trade are Jake Westbrook of Chicago and Cole Hamels from Tampa Bay. If a deal can't be done, the Rockies will make a run for a title with Brian Duensing (2-6, 4.39), Sam Deduno (3-0, 2.48 in three starts), or Jhoulys Chacin, who isn't rumored to be coming back from injury in mid-August. Along with a boost to the pitching staff, Evan Longoria may finally return to the team after a leg injury that's sidelined him since May 1st. The team will be cautious with rushing him back into action, but the Longoria's impact can't be underappreciated. He hit (.321, 4, 19) in only one month of play. New accusitions Jason Kubel and Chris Resop are still getting used to their new homes. Kubel has gone 2/15 with 1 HR since coming to Colorado and Resop has yet to make an appearance out of the bullpen. Both players, however, should make big impacts during the post-season. The Rockies are also rumored to be bidding on several relief pitchers to bring depth for the playoffs.

Rockies Take Edwards, Trade for Westbrook
The Rockies made their fourth round selection this weekend, however, this time without the help of their GM. "I've been working all weekend," GM Alex said. "I had to get deals done to win now, I trust that my guys can make the right pick." It's the Rockies second SS taken in the draft as they took Spencer Edwards out of a Texas High School. In other news, we can see why the GM was pre-occupied, as the Rockies brought in starting pitcher Jake Westbrook today. The Rockies will send in return prospects Josh Slaats and Heath Hembree, starting pitcher Christian Friedrich, and OF/1B Tyler Moore. Westbrook has been great this season (12-8, 3.62) and the Rockies hope he can continue his success this post-season as the Rockies make a run towards a title.

Deal Official, Westbrook a Rockie The Rockies deal for Jake Westbrook was made official late last night to make the starting pitcher a member of the Colorado Rockies. Westbrook was excited in interviews to be shipped to a team contending for a championship. Westbrook has spent the last two years with the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals. He will make his first start with the Rockies on Friday as the Rockies continue there matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals. The move gives the Rockies a more reliable rotation down the home stretch. They now have David Price (15-4, 2.50), C.J. Wilson (9-9, 3.32), and Jake Westbrook (12-8, 3.62) as a one-two-three punch at the top of the rotation. Jhoulys Chacin is also supposed to be coming back from a stomach injury before September. In other news, Paul Konerko has passed multiple concussion tests and will be back as soon as Friday. Matt Capps has exceeded expectations in rehab and could return by early September for the playoffs.

Rockies Silent at Deadline, Fall to Cards The Rockies used their first of three picks in the 5th round to take catcher Patrick Cantwell. The Rockies are thin at the position. With future catcher Wilson Ramos out for the season, the Rockies are left with Steve Clevinger and Ramon Castro at the MLB level. It is definitely a position the Rockies are trying to upgrade. However, a nice prospect could help. In other news, the trade deadline came and went with the Rockies making no other moves after the Westbrook deal. The Rockies also fell to the St. Louis Cardinals last week to move to (15-3) on the season. With the Astros also losing, the Rockies remain the top team in the National League, and the top spot is there's to lose. In roster news, the Rockies activated Jhoulys Chacin sunday from the DL and he will start Tuesday against the Pirates. Eric Young Jr. was called up to replace the injured Justin Ruggiano. Matt Capps continues to make progress to a september recovery. Finally, Evan Longoria has started to the show the pop in his bat that the Rockies have missed for most of the year.

Rockies Finish Regular Season, #1 Seed
The Rockies regular season ended today with a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates to finish (16-3) on the season. The Rockies have a bye in the first round and the top seed in the National League. They will await the winner of the Philadelphia vs. St. Louis. The Rockies GM stated regarded the season, "We are really proud of all we've accomplished so far. I'm proud of the way our guys have competed game after game. However, we aren't there yet. We haven't checked off our ultimate goal, which is to win a World Series. The bitter taste from last year still lingers in my mouth, and I hope it does with all our guys." Before exiting the press room, the GM also quickly commented with a wink, "I like our chances." The buzz in Colorado is tremendous. The team will head into the post-season with a much improved lineup and rotation from last year, when they fell a game short of the World Series. The Rockies will head into the post-season with a 25-man roster consisting off. Steve Clevenger, Paul Konerko, Mark Ellis, Elvis Andrus, Evan Longoria, David Wright, Ben Revere, Bryce Harper, Jason Kubel, Carlos Lee, Quintin Berry, Eric Young Jr, David Price, Ubaldo Jimenez, C.J. Wilson, Jake Westbrook, Vance Worley, Jhoulys Chacin, Brian Duensing, Sam Deduno, Craig Kimbrel, Rafael Soriano, Chris Resop, Rafael Betancourt, Matt Lindstrom, and Matt Capps (who could possibly come off the DL towards the end of the post-season. Now, for the regular season awards for the Rockies players: Best Arm: David Price Price was the best arm in the Rockies rotation this year, and perhaps even the best in the league by the seasons end. He finished the Base Knock regular season with a (16-4) record and posted a (2.28) ERA. His success could bring the Rockies to a title. Best Bat: David Wright When concerns for this team were raised when Longoria went down for 4 months, Wright answered the call and carried the load for the Rockies. He hit (.317) with 17 HR's, 76 RBI, and even stole 12 bases. He stayed heathy throughout the season, something only a few players on the Rockies have done, and produced at a high level. Most Improved: Rafael Soriano The list of players that were still on the team from last year and showed great improvement was small, being the team really shook it up from last season. However, Soriano has emerged into one of the game's elite closers. He recorded 32 saves this season, contributing greatly to the Rockies league leading save total. We look forward to the Rockies beginning post-season play. Good luck Rockies!

It's Houston
The Houston Astros defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in Round 1 of the post season. This means your Colorado Rockies will take on Houston in the ALDS. Some say these are the best two teams in the National League. A key part to this game. Both David Price and Steven Strasburg started today so they will be unavailble for the first few days.
