Rockies Acquire Rasmus With Deadline ApproachingWith the trade deadline less than two weeks a way, the Rockies got some business done in the acquisition of outfielder Colby Rasmus from the Chicago White Sox yesterday afternoon. It had been previously anticipated that the Rockies would not be making any serious deals this late in the season and would instead keep their top minor league talent. However, with September approaching, it isn't surprising that Colorado decided to ship out a few players in order to improve the team for now.
In the deal, the Rockies agreed to send prospects Nick Tropeano, Daniel Norris, and Carson Kelly to Chicago. Along with that trio, the Rockies were also able to deal away Quintin Berry and his large contract to the White Sox for a salary dump. In return, the White Sox traded outfielder Colby Rasmus, and prospects Rudy Owens and Duane Below.
The Rockies were reported to be in the hunt for an outfielder yesterday afternoon. Jason Kubel and Justin Ruggiano have struggled mightily in the third outfield spot all season. Brandon Barnes and David DeJesus have also dealt with injuries. That leaves Bryce Harper on an island, and even he has dealt with injuries over the season. Rasmus has hit a stride recently and his numbers stand at .279 AVG , 17 HR, 55 RBI. He will immediately be able to start over Kubel and Ruggaino alongside Harper and DeJesus in the outfield. Rasmus currently has 309.5 points on the season, which ranks 33rd among players eligible for the outfield position.
Prospects Rudy Owens and Duane Below are both talented pitching prospects who are nearing the majors. While they both probably won't see the Rockies mound, they could both be valuable come next season when the Rockies have to make pay-cuts.

Rockies Win, Phillies Lose, First Place is Ours! The Rockies defeated the Houston Astros this weekend, but the bigger news is the that the once lowly but now surging Chicago Cubs defeated the National League's best Philadelphia Phillies to give the Rockies the top seed in the National League. Colorado battled all week, mindful of the scoreboard, before crushing the Astros over the weekend. The Phillies loss puts them at the #3 seed, the Cardinals at the #2 seed, and the Rockies go to the number one spot in the National League. Leading the way for the Rockies against Houston this week was David Price. He had 44.8 points in two very dominant starts.
Now for some bad news, in roster news. The Rockies have placed team co-captain David Wright on the disabled list with a strained hamstring. He will be out for 3-5 weeks as he recovers. This move is devastating to the Rockies lineup and makes the first round bye all the more important as the team waits for him to recover. The Rockies have called up outfielder Brandon Barnes to the 25-man roster in Wright's absence. Rafael Betancourt remains on the DL and will not start his rehab assignment until this friday.
GM Alex Monseth said this morning, "We're right where we want to be. Number one. Can't ask much more of our guys at this point. Hopefully, we can get this win over St. Louis this week to make it a done deal."
Final Score: Rockies (14-3): 370.1 Astros (10-7): 272.8
NL West Standings After Week 17

The Rockies will play the #2 seed St. Louis Cardinals (14-3) this week. The winner will likely go on to be the number one seed come post-season time. If the Rockies lose, they could risk falling all the way to the fourth seed if San Diego and Philadelphia both win.

In Battle of the Elite, Rockies Prevail, Rasmus to DLColorado vs. St. Louis. The winner would likely lock up the top seed in the National League. The loser... losing their possible bye in the first round of the playoffs. While the Phillies lost keep both of these teams at the top, the Rockies prevailed this past week with a resounding win over the Cardinals. Elvis Andrus was by far the best player on the field with 45 points. Brian Duensing pitched in 26.6 points with an interesting week in which he earned two wins on the same day.
Injuries are starting to mount again in the clubhouse. Colby Rasmus is the newest addition to the disabled list that already holds reliever Rafael Betancourt, and team captain and best hitter David Wright. While Wright is the only one in danger of missing the rest of the season, both Rasmus and Betancourt should be able to return soon. Wilson Ramos is day-to-day with hamstring tightness.
Rockies GM Alex Monseth was quoted after the game, "Nice work getting the job done to lock up the bye. We'll take care of Pittsburgh, get our guys rested and healthy during this time off, and get ready to go for our post-season run."

Rockies Finish With Same Win Total, Defeat PittsburghThe 2013 regular season is in the books for the Colorado Rockies as they easily defeated the winless Pittsburgh Pirates to finish out their season. Their was no contest in the game that clinched the number one seed in the national league for the Rockies heading into the post-season. The team was able to match it's 16-3 record from last season despite a slow start by winning their last nine games after their three game skid in the middle of the season. Evan Longoria was the high-scorer in Week 19 with 37 points. Jhoulys Chacin added 31.4 on the mound, and Craig Kimbrel had 30.4 out of the bullpen.
In team roster news, David Wright remains on the disabled list, but said earlier this week that he expects to return to the field for the end of the season. Colby Rasmus also remains out, his timetable for return isn't known. Joining Wright and Rasmus this week, Jake Westbrook will head back to the disabled list. He has struggled since returning from a previous injury at the all-star break.
GM Alex Monseth wrapped up the season with a quote, "Glad that that's over. We've failed twice here. This is go-time. There's no more slack, no second chances. Win or go home."
Final Score: Rockies (16-3): 311.4 Pirates (0-19): 108.5
Week 19 MVP: Evan Longoria: 37
The Rockies will have a bye week for the first matchups of the post-season due to their number one overall seed. They will play the winner of the game between the San Diego Padres and the Cincinnati Reds.

We're Going To The World Series!
It's taken two failures to finally get it done, but the Colorado Rockies are finally heading to the World Series of baseball. The team narrowly beat the St. Louis Cardinals in a thriller. The team was led by the often injured catcher Wilson Ramos who had 26.5 points. Reliever Rafael Soriano also had 24.9 points out of the bullpen. It was a dream-like story for Ramos who's struggled with many injuries over the past few seasons. However, the team has stuck with has as their starting catcher, and he's starting to turn things around.
David Wright and Colby Rasmus remain out with injuries. It is unknown whether or not they will play in the World Series. Wright will be on the 25-man roster for the World Series, hopefully he makes it on the field for at least a couple of games.
The head-man Alex Monseth was quoted with an NLCS Champions cap on his head, "We've been waiting for this moment for two years. One more game, seven more days, and we'll have accomplished our goal."
Final Score: Rockies (#1): 294.7 Cardinals (#2): 246.7
NLCS MVP: Wilson Ramos: 26.5
The Rockies released their 25-man roster that will remain locked for the World Series. It is as follows...
Catcher - Wilson Ramos First Base - Paul Konerko Second Base - Mark Ellis, Yuniesky Betancourt Shortstop - Elvis Andrus Third Base - Evan Longoria, David Wright Outfield - Bryce Harper, Brandon Barnes, David DeJesus, Jason Kubel Starting Pitchers - David Price, C.J. WE'RE THE CHAMPIONS!The Rockies are champions of the baseball world after defeating the Texas Rangers in the World Series! The Rockies won by a score of 374.75 to the Rangers 355.56. The team pulled out to an early lead in the first few days, but Texas rallied back to take the lead Sunday afternoon. However, an incredible start by Ubaldo Jimenez put the team back in front for good. The Rockies were led by the one and only Ubaldo Jimenez who had 54.36 points as the World Series MVP. He fell just .65 points shy of breaking Miguel Cabrera's record for most points in a World Series. Wilson Ramos was also huge in the victory as he led all hitters in scoring with 44 points including four home runs. Other key contributors were closer Craig Kimbrel with 25.94 points, ace David Price with 24.88 points, outfielder Bryce Harper with 23.5 points, and starter Jeff Locke with 23.36 points.
The win was of course the first World Series victory in the history of Base Knock Dynasty Baseball. After two disappointing seasons that ended in NLCS losses, it makes it all the more sweet to see the Rockies as the champions of the baseball world.
GM Alex Monseth said, "All I can say is congratulations to this great organization. We've earned this victory. World Champs baby!"
Final Score: Rockies (16-3): 374.75 Rangers (18-1): 355.56
World Series MVP: Ubaldo Jimenez: 54.36
The Rockies Report caught up with team co-captain Evan Longoria and World Series MVP Ubaldo Jimenez early this week. Let's here what they had to say on the season!
Evan Longoria:
RR #1: "Evan! Great season, how do you guys feel now that you've finally done it!?"
Evan - "It feels incredible. We've gone through so much as a team. A lot of us were here in 2011 when we went home after Philadelphia. Even more were there when we lost to Cincinnati. Victory is so much sweeter coming on the heels of defeat."
RR #2: "With David (Wright) being out for the entire post-season run, how much more of a leader did you have to become as co-captain of the team?
Evan - "It was definitely a different feel. David's an incredible leader, and he's great about getting us all motivated to do our best out there. I didn't have to change that much of what I do though. We have a lot of vets around here that know the drill."
RR #3: "How would you grade your season and what are you looking to improve upon next year?"
Evan - "I think I performed about average for me. My batting average was down quite a bit from previous years. That's something I'm going to need to improve a lot to help us next season."
Ubaldo Jimenez
RR #1: "Como estas Ubaldo? Tu juegas beisbol muy bien! Si?"
Ubaldo - "Haha, I speak English guys. Yeah, I've been feeling really good on the mound as of late. My game hasn't really felt this good since a few years ago. I'm back to the old me!"
RR #2: "Yeah... that was someone's fault... hold one *yelling, door slam*. Okay, yeah, well terrific work. You've only allowed more than 3 runs in a game ONCE since May 22nd, lowering your ERA from 6.04 to 3.49."
Ubaldo - "Yeah, as I said, things have been clicking. I've really been seeing results from my hard work."
RR #3: "What are your expectations for next season?"
Ubaldo - "Just keep improving. We can repeat, we've got enough talent to do it!"
Congratulations Colorado!

Rockies Enter New Franchise Phase The Colorado Rockies have entered a new era in the franchise's history as we are right in the thick of the 2015 season. Drastic changes were made by the front office this off-season following a disappointing 12-7 season followed by a first round playoff exit. Much of the remaining members of the 2013 championship team were ousted to contenders and fresh, young faces were brought to the rocky city. While fans were someone disappointed with the news, many seemed to expect and looked forward the excitement of watching young ballplayers grow into stars.
The team resigned Elvis Andrus with the franchise tag, but declined to sign star outfielder J.D. Martinez in the off-season, starters C.J. Wilson and Ubaldo Jimenez, and others. Along with their free agency dismantling, the team traded away ace David Price, set-up man Rafael Soriano, and stars: outfielder Bryce Harper, third baseman David Wright, and first baseman Joey Votto. The team did little in the majors to replace such a talent departure, but did bring in Mike Olt, Kevin Jepsen, and David Ross via free agency and acquired third baseman Marcus Semien and reliever Ernesto Frieri.
The goal from the beginning of the rebuilding process from GM Alex Monseth's eyes was to first "build a strong, affordable bullpen" and go from there. Kimbrel remains the anchor, and a talented group led by Jepsen, Frieri, and Tanner Scheppers will give the Rockies a solid core going forward.
While much of the established Rockies talent left, a bright future awaits this team as they were able to amass a lot of draft picks and talented prospects. Before this off-season, Colorado possessed one of the worst farm systems in the league, not promising for an aging team, with only prospects Keury Mella, Jose Peraza, and Eric Jagielo catching anyone's eye. Now, the Rockies have one of the better farms in baseball.
Newly acquired pitching prospects include: Luis Severino, Kohl Stewart, Aaron Nola, A.J. Cole, Ryne Stanek, Cam Bedrosian, Manny Banuelos, David GoForth, Anthony Ranaudo, Jeremy Rhoades, and Duane Underwood. On the offensive end, new hitting prospects include: catchers Reese Mcguire and James McCann, first basemen Greg Bird and Casey Gillaspie, third baseman Giovanny Urshela, shortstop Jacoby Jones, and outfielders Hunter Renfroe, Stephen Piscotty, Aaron Judge, Clint Coulter, Domingo Santana and Tyler O'Neill.
Along with the prospects, the Rockies now possess quite the repertoire of draft picks for the upcoming 2015 draft. These include: Colorado 1st, San Diego 1st, Colorado 2nd, Pittsburgh 2nd, Baltimore 2nd, Arizona 2nd, Colorado 3rd, San Diego 3rd, New York 3rd, Colorado 4th, Baltimore 4th, Miami 4th, Pittsburgh 4th, Colorado 5th, Oakland 5th, Chicago (CHW) 5th, Colorado 6th and a J.D. Martinez Compensation Round B selection.
With the pieces for a strong rebuild in place, now the fans must wait and see how long GM Alex Monseth will wait on pulling the trigger to come back into contention. A key indicator may be whether or not the team trades or holds onto current ace Alfredo Simon, who is currently 3rd in the league in scoring among pitchers. If Simon is traded, this could mean that the Rockies intend to see the entirety of this rebuild out. However, if he is kept amidst this terrific season with only one season left on his contract following this season, it could be a sign that the Rockies intend to make a move sooner rather than later. One factor in this could be the strength of the division...
The NL West is at an all-time high in competitiveness this season. The San Diego Padres are far and away the best team in the league, the Arizona D'backs and Los Angeles Dodgers both ranked in the top ten in scoring, and the San Francisco Giants just hired a no-messing-around GM to right the ship. So, the question must be asked: should the Rockies play out the rebuild and wait for the division to come back down to earth? Can the fans wait that long for a franchise that has had so much success in the past?
This question remains to be answered. In the meantime, the Rockies are 0-3, and looking at possibly another loss to a division rival as they play San Francisco this week. They have the MiLB Draft to look forward to, where 5 more prospects, along with newly added third baseman Giovanny Urshela, will join this talented farm system, and the amateur draft in both 2015 and 2016... where it will be expected for the first time in league history that the Rockies will have a draft pick in the top half of the draft.
So we wait Rockies fans... just think of the good times while we endure the bad, and before we know it, the tides will have turned.

MiLB Draft: Rockies Take Munoz in 2nd With the 19th pick in the second round of the 2015 MiLB Draft, the Colorado Rockies took a young 20 year old shortstop: Yairo Munoz. This selection follows up the Rockies Round 1 pick of third baseman Giovanny Urshela. While Urshela may reach the majors at some point this season, Munoz is more of a project at the shortstop position in the Rockies organization. While he is move long-term, this will play in perfectly with the Rockies current roster, that has Elvis Andrus locked up for three more seasons at that position. Here's what the experts have to say on Munoz:
As the MiLB Draft picks can't be traded and the draft is not snake format, the Rockies will wait 30 picks to pick again at #19 in the 3rd round.

Rockies Fall To Giants, Now In Division Cellar The Colorado Rockies fell to an all-time worst 0-4 this week with another let down against division rival San Francisco. In a battle of two rebuilding teams, the Rockies were the team with less firepower, and couldn't overcome an early in the week deficit. Third Baseman Marcus Semien led the way for the Rockies in scoring with 28 points. Other major contributors were Outfielder Danny Santana with 20.5 points and Closer Craig Kimbrel with 14.6. All in all, however, the Rockies were quite awful, scoring only 139.7 points for the entirety of the week.
In other news, the Rockies called up to the roster pitcher A.J Cole and outfielder Tyler Holt. Hopefully the additions will be able to make an impact to improve this greatly depleted team. The team has also reportedly been shopping around starting pitcher Alfredo Simon. Simon has been terrific this season, ranking as the one of the top pitchers in the league in scoring. While his arbitration status makes him still valuable down the road, the Rockies may be trying to capitalize on his incredible start to the season. The team cut minor league pitchers Brock Burke, Mark Sappington, and Elvis Araujo this past weekend.
Final Score: Giants (1-3): 182.7 Rockies (0-4): 139.7
Week 4 MVP: Marcus Semien - 28

Semien Shines in Loss, Team Signs Marmol The Rockies record stands at 0-5 after a crushing loss to the #5 ranked Miami Marlins this week in Miami. The team now finds themselves five games back of the division leading San Diego Padres and a season that appears destined to be the worst in team history. Colorado held their own through the first part of the week, trailing by less than 20 points a the mid-week point. However, Miami exploded for over 200+ points in the final three days to put the Rockies away for good. Marcus Semien's bat was the bright spot for the Rockies in the matchup, as he put together two 10+ point games including a 17.5 point performance on Sunday afternoon for a total of 32.5 for the week. Also contributing were catcher Wilson and outfielder Danny Santana with 17.5 total points, and longtime Rockie reliever Rob Scahill with 14.9 points. The game moved the Rockies up (+1) from #27 to #26 in the power rankings.
In other news, the Rockies signed veteran reliever Carlos Marmol to the minimum contract with an option to play next season. GM Alex Monseth has made a priority of providing the team with bullpen depth, and this move seems aimed at continuing to provide that. Marmol has had 30+ save seasons in the past, and while he hasn't done much of that recently, the Rockies could be hoping to draw out whatever magic he may have left. The other interesting news of the week is the Rockies used their third round MiLB Draft pick to take reliever Trevor Gott. Here's a report from MLB.com on the newly acquired prospect:
The Rockies will pick once again in the 4th round at pick 19.
Final Score: Rockies (0-5): 156.5 Marlins (4-1): 318.7
Week 5 MVP: Marcus Semien: 32.5

Rockies Draft Kilome, Fall to 0-6 Rockies fans awoke Monday morning with a similar feeling of defeat on their minds early today, as the Rockies fell victim once again to the Miami Marlins. While the Rockies were, once again, faring fairly well mid-week with a lead going into Thursday, Miami broke away and finished with a 355.9-184.2 victory over our beloved Rockies. The loss brings Colorado's record to 0-6 on the season. Rockies' starting pitcher, Alfredo Simon, led the way for Colorado in scoring with 25.1 points in two quality starts over the week. Simon boasts an impressive 3.04 ERA at this point through the season, and has been one of the more effective pitchers in the league. Also contributing to the Rockies' point total was Danny Santana who put up 21.5 during the week. Colorado will stay within the once dreadful but now formidable National League East division this week as they take on the 3-3 Atlanta Braves.
In other news, the Rockies made their 4th round selection in this years' MiLB Draft. The team added 19 year old pitcher, Franklyn Kilome, to the farm system with the 19th pick. While Kilome isn't due to reach the majors by projections until 2019, his potential is great, and he could pay dividends down the road. Here's what MLB.com had to say about him:
Another bit of Rockies news for you hungry fans this week is that prospect A.J. Cole is being reinserted into the rotation after being sent down following a rather unworthy start of the major leagues earlier this year. He will make his appearance on Wednesday, the 21st against the Atlanta Braves. Final Score: Rockies (0-6): 184.2 Marlins (5-1): 355.9 Week 6 MVP: Alfredo Simon: 25.1 NL West Standings After Week 6
