Nationals trade
Brailyn Marquez (spec) Luis Toribio (spec) Erick Pena (spec) Jairo Pomares (spec) Pirates 2021 1st Round Pick
Red Sox Trade
Eduardo Rodriguez B Arb Year 6, 7.1 million (75% coverage), Year 7, 7.9 million (0% coverage)
Hyun Jin Ryu 1 Year, 6 million (75% coverage)
Michael Brantley 3 Years, 7 Million (75% coverage in 21', 0% in 22', 0% in 23')
Boston 2021 6th Round Pick
I've been dealing off lower tier MLB assets for some draft picks with the intention of flipping some of my higher tier specs for higher tier MLB assets. I feel like this is a good acquisition in that I get 1 year of a frontline starter in Ryu and some stability in the outfield with Brantley. I am not crazy about E-Rod being B Arb but i'll take a season and a half of production out of him.

Accepted I’ve been in talks for all 3 of these guys in separate deals that haven’t come together but this package one makes sense for me I vary high on all these prospects and feel safe with them being hitters pomares probably most volatile but makes Gallo shy away with his power good talks Tim and good luck

Ryu's 2 year average of the past 3 seasons is 359 points...41 points under the threshold to be worth a Comp B pick. To be worth a Comp A pick in 2022, he needs to score a total of 511 points in 2021. He currently sits at 120. So to answer your question, no, he is not worth a Comp A pick.

Extrapolating out Ryu's current projections (18 starts and 389 points), he's in line to be worth a Comp B in 2022. I think it's worth noting that these Comp picks don't come in to play until NEXT season's draft. So there is the 'time value of money' factor in play.

Just to be clear... it's taking the BEST TWO seasons from the past three years and then taking the average points scored from those best two seasons. Just want to make sure everyone understands the rule change from a couple years ago. We did this to A. stop relying on random rankings lists to determine compensation and B. avoid an injured players not getting a compensation they're worth if they miss season.

For frame of reference - Ryu had 487 points in 2019 in 29 starts.
